ABOUT
MIGUEL URBINO (he/him/his) is a [fresh-of-the-plane] London-based, queer, first-generation Filipino-American, designer for the stage.
He approaches design by investigating the humanity in each piece he works on. Miguel enjoys discovering fresh perspectives and new themes on familiar pieces; carving out space for underrepresented identities and cultures in western theatre classics; and provoking discussions relevant to today's society. He also loves to work on pieces that upend long-unquestioned assumptions about the theatrical form, playing with the relationships between the audience, the space, and the performers.
Previous collaborators include: New York City Center, Repertory Philippines, Yale Repertory Theatre, the Public Theater, American Repertory Theater, Playwrights Horizons, Yale School of Drama, Yale Cabaret, Marymount Manhattan College, 59E59 Theatre, among others. Miguel was recently featured in the American Theatre Wing’s Design Workshop with Clint Ramos and David Zinn.
Miguel is one of the 2023/24 recipients of the 1/52 Project Grant. He earned his MFA in Design from the Yale School of Drama, and his BA in Theatre Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in 2016. Proud member of United Scenic Artists Local USA 829, IATSE.
